Munduk village sits at 950 metres in the cool highlands above the north coast, surrounded by some of Bali's most productive spice plantations. The air smells of clove and damp earth, the temperature rarely exceeds 25°C, and the mist that rolls through the valley each afternoon gives the landscape a distinctly un-tropical quality. The twin waterfalls — sometimes called Munduk Falls — drop about 15 metres each into a shared pool surrounded by tree ferns and thick forest. The walk from the village takes 15–20 minutes along a clear path that passes through working gardens where you can see vanilla vines, cacao pods, and rows of coffee plants. Local guides offer the additional option of visiting several smaller cascades on the extended jungle trek — a 3-hour circuit that passes four falls in total. Munduk is also a gateway to two of Bali's highland lakes: Danau Tamblingan to the west (the smallest and least visited of Bali's crater lakes, still ringed by primary forest) and Danau Buyan just east. A sunrise canoe paddle on Tamblingan through the morning mist, with the forest reflected perfectly in the black water, is one of the most atmospheric experiences available in northern Bali.
