Sekumpul is widely regarded as the most beautiful waterfall in Bali, and the journey to reach it is as memorable as the destination itself. The trek begins near the village of Sekumpul in Buleleng's lush interior highlands, descending through dense tropical forest on a steep, narrow path that crosses several streams and passes working cacao and clove farms. The waterfall complex itself consists of seven separate falls cascading from a sheer basalt cliff into a single broad pool. In the wet season (November–March), all seven channels run at full force, creating a curtain of white water more than 80 metres wide. In the dry season, the flows narrow but the pool becomes clearer and easier to swim in — a cool, emerald reward after the hike. The best time to visit is early morning (before 8 a.m.) when the canyon receives direct light and the falls are backlit in gold. A local guide is strongly recommended — not only for navigation but because many guides are from the farming families who maintain the forest paths and can explain the ecology and history of the site.
