The Nusa Dua Festival is an annual multi-day cultural event held on the beach and boardwalk adjacent to Nusa Dua's hotel zone, typically in late September or early October. The festival was established as a collaboration between the hotel industry, the Bali Tourism Board, and local arts communities to create a culturally rich event that serves both the large number of conference and resort guests staying in Nusa Dua and the wider Balinese public. The programme spans traditional performing arts (gamelan competitions, legong, baris, and topeng dance performances), contemporary cultural presentations, traditional cuisine exhibitions featuring the distinctive culinary styles of all eight Bali regencies, and craft demonstrations by master artisans in weaving, silversmithing, and woodcarving. The beach setting distinguishes the festival from the more formal indoor venues of the Bali Arts Festival — performances take place on temporary stages facing the sea, with the Indian Ocean as backdrop and the trade winds providing natural air conditioning. A significant portion of the festival programme is dedicated to the culinary traditions of Bali's coastal communities — communities whose relationship to the ocean is as central to their identity as the rice culture of the highlands. Grilled fish preparations, fresh coconut-based desserts, and the seafood-centric cuisine of the Bukit and Nusa Dua fishing villages are presented by local cooks and available for tasting by visitors throughout the festival days.
